The website of the Weimaraner Klub of Gauteng

Home

Welcome to the official website of the Weimaraner Klub of Gauteng, the only KUSA-affiliated Weimaraner club in South Africa  (And yes the K in Klub is intentional – the name of the club was derived from that of the German club)

The aim of the klub is to maintain and improve the quality of Weimaraners in South Africa by expecting Klub registered breeders to comply with a Code of Ethics set by the Klub. Since the klub’s inception members were encouraged to have their dogs x-rayed for hip dysplasia.

The rules for hip dysplasia state that:

  1. Dogs/bitches with a Grading of A1, A2, B1 can be bred to dogs/bitches with the same grading or that of B2, C1, C2.
  2. Dogs/bitches with a grading of B2, C1, C2 may only be mated to dogs/bitches with a grading of A1, A2, B1

Since January 1992, all Weimaraners are expected to comply with these regulations before a litter can be registered at Kusa.

Klub members are encouraged to show their dogs at KUSA shows, and we also host our own Open and Championship show in February and August respectively

Also, since a Weimaraner is first off a working dog, the Klub hosts an annual Shooting Ratings test in June, with training sessions in the two months before that. Klub members, and indeed all interested Weimaraner owners are welcome to bring their dogs for training on the training Sundays, and also so the dogs can be tested for Retriever and Shooting ability at the Shooting Ratings.

Weimaraner Klub Calendar 2017

Last modified on 2016-06-03 09:35:55 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

weimheadIt is time to start collecting images and sponsors for the 2017 Weimaraner Klub of Gauteng Calendar

As we did it last year, all sponsors will be supplied with a printed proof of their ad that will have to be signed by the sponsor and returned to us before finalising the calendar. This will eliminate errors and allow us to see how the supplied photos will look printed

There is no theme this year, however please read rules for submissions below

Sponsorship
To pay for the printing costs we are selling sponsorships per calendar page
Sponsorship of the calendar is open to Klub members, Klub Weimaraner breeders and even businesses in general – 12 sponsors in total, one per month. Each sponsor will pay R500 per page sponsored and the sponsor’s details and logo will be placed on this page – this will be the case for breeders and business / general sponsors. Each sponsor can then supply one photo for use with their sponsored page – if not available a sponsor can choose another photo supplied by Klub members or the general public – as long as it conforms to the regulations as below

Note: Breeder sponsorship is limited to Kusa Registered Weimaraner breeders that are members of the Weimaraner Klub of Gauteng

Note: One calendar sponsorship per person only

To ensure we have the funds available by the time the calendar needs to be printed, we need to have confirmation of sponsors by 15 June and payment paid into the Klub’s account by 30 June. First come first served.

So please start sending those photos, and if you want to sponsor a month, please contact us at [email protected], or call 082 896 0378 for enquiries.

Please send your photos to [email protected]

The rules:

Only Weimaraners in the photos, no people or other dog breeds allowed
South African weimaraners only – not necessarily from Klub members, all submissions are welcome
High quality images only, 5 Megapixel and up if possible. Higher quality photos will enjoy preference. No cellphone photos.
Full artistic credit will be given to the photographer. Unfortunately we cannot pay for photos
Submitting your photo does not guarantee placement. We do however try to use all photos not used as main photos as additional decoration on the calendar

Longhair / Shorthairs to show seperately

Last modified on 2015-08-16 16:36:35 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

kusa_logo_001At the recent FEDCO meeting held in June, it was decided to accept the request from the Weimaraner Klub of Gauteng that the Longhair and Shorthair varieties be split in the showring. Longhairs and shorthairs will therefore be judged seperately at shows starting from 1 January 2016. Along with this decision came a few clauses, added by KUSA, aimed at protecting the breed and regulating the identification of dogs with the Longhair gene as well as Longhairs. Interbreeding of Long and Shorthair dogs will also now be regulated, but the Weimaraner Klub of Gauteng will need to set the rules by which this is regulated and supply these to KUSA for general use

For this purpose, the Committee will form a Subcommittee tasked with setting the boundaries for interbreeding. The Subcommittee will consist of Committee members as well as a representative from the Longhair breeders/enthusiasts

Thank you for all that people that were involved with getting the request passed by DOGSPC and KUSA, in particular Hendrik Vorster who submitted the request at the Weimaraner Klub of Gauteng AGM in 2014, as well as the Longhair breeders/enthusiasts that put together a motivation document and our Chairman for his part in motivating it at DOGSPC and with other people involved at the FEDCO meeting

The extract from the FEDCO minutes:

4.4.4 Weimaraner (Fedco 12-14, Item 4.4.3)

Proposal by DOGSPC deferred from December meeting:

“At Weimaraner Club AGM on 26 March, the meeting discussed a proposal to have the judging of the Short-haired and Long-haired varieties of the Weimaraner breed separated at all breeds shows under the jurisdiction of the KUSA

There would thus be two sets of CCs available for the breed. However, the same breed standard will apply for both varieties.

Motivation:

The Weimaraner breed is judged in South Africa to the FCI Standard.
All FCI countries separate the two varieties, as does Australia.
We would like to follow the example of the German Shepherds which were recently split into Long Hair and Short Hair varieties in South Africa and are now judged separately.”

Further input from Weimaraner Club awaited. Further information will be tabled once available.

After discussion the following was approved unanimously:

The proposal to split the breed into Long-haired and Short-haired varieties was accepted.
Separate CCs will be issued.
Inter-variety mating will be permitted, subject to advance permission being obtained from Exco.
Weimaraner Club to set parameters for such permission to be granted by Exco.
Provision to be made for re-classification of recessives for 20 years.
Provision to be made for certificate change from ‘Weimaraner’ to Long-haired or Short-haired
(Evaluation Form to be completed by two Senior Judges.)
Amendment to Schedule 2, Appendix A (list of breeds).

Proposed CI, seconded JH
Effective 01.01.2016

Feedback on a Happy Orphan

Hello Linda and Chrystelle,

Jim and I are happy to confirm that Orphan now “Shadow” has settled in very well, is highly intelligent and overflows with energy and affection for all the dogs and humans on the farm.

She enjoys hunting for mice with the Yorkshire Terrier and has given our Max (10yr old Weimie) a new lease in life. This is just another confirmation why Weimie’s are such amazing dogs !

Thank you  Chrystelle, and your mum for helping us find such an adorable little girl.

Thank you Linda at the Weimaraner Klub for all the hard work you guys do for the Weimies in our country.

Kind regards,

Penny and Jim Uys

  • Geagte Die Klub,

    Groete

    Carlien

  • Hi, I am a huge Weimaraner lover. I grew up surrounded by them as a child in Trinidad as my grandfather imported the first breeding pair to that country from Great Britain some 40 years ago. I am interested in buying a male puppy and would like any info on approved breeders in Kwazulu Natal.
