The Klub

The Weimaraner Klub of the Transvaal was founded in January 1981 and became affiliated to the Kennel Union of South Africa (KUSA) in 1985 The aim of the klub is to maintain and improve the quality of Weimaraners in this country by judicious breeding, tattooing of klub litters and issuing of klub pedigrees. To this effect a Breeding Committee evaluates dogs before they are used for breeding, all prospective klub matings should be approved by this committee. Since the klub’s inception members were encouraged to have their dogs x-rayed for hip dysplasia, with only HD free dogs or Grade I to an HD free partner being passed for breeding.

Since January 1992 KUSA requires that Weimaraners comply with the same HD requirements detailed above, before litters can be registered, and copies of x-ray results for both parents must accompany registration applications. All the above conditions are obligatory for members wishing to breed, having their litters tattooed and issued with klub pedigrees. Prospective members are requested to bear these conditions in mind before joining the klub. Members residing outside Gauteng are encouraged to follow the klub’s Breeding Guidelines as far as possible..

The Klub produces several newsletters and a bumper annual edition at the year end, keeping members updated on all breed activities. Importantly, the klub holds Shooting Ratings providing an excellent opportunity for members to test their Weimaraners in the field. We also organise various other events including our annual Open Show and Championship Show, and our annual Lunch/Prize giving towards the end of the year, which enable breed enthusiasts to meet and socialise.
