Welcome to the official website of the Weimaraner Klub of Gauteng, the only KUSA-affiliated Weimaraner club in South Africa  (And yes the K in Klub is intentional – the name of the club was derived from that of the German club)

The aim of the klub is to maintain and improve the quality of Weimaraners in South Africa by expecting Klub registered breeders to comply with a Code of Ethics set by the Klub. Since the klub’s inception members were encouraged to have their dogs x-rayed for hip dysplasia.

The rules for hip dysplasia state that:

  1. Dogs/bitches with a Grading of A1, A2, B1 can be bred to dogs/bitches with the same grading or that of B2, C1, C2.
  2. Dogs/bitches with a grading of B2, C1, C2 may only be mated to dogs/bitches with a grading of A1, A2, B1

Since January 1992, all Weimaraners are expected to comply with these regulations before a litter can be registered at Kusa.

Klub members are encouraged to show their dogs at KUSA shows, and we also host our own Open and Championship show in February and August respectively

Also, since a Weimaraner is first off a working dog, the Klub hosts an annual Shooting Ratings test in June, with training sessions in the two months before that. Klub members, and indeed all interested Weimaraner owners are welcome to bring their dogs for training on the training Sundays, and also so the dogs can be tested for Retriever and Shooting ability at the Shooting Ratings.

This year we have an additional challenge in that a marathon race will be held at the Saheti school and a lot of the roads in the area will be closed. One road in particular will be the road in front of Goldfields, so to get into Goldfields, the bottom gate will need to be used.

There are several routes to the lower gate:

Option 1

This is the route a lot of people use, come in on the R24 towards Eastgate, take the Concorde offramp and then turn left into the first road and then immediately left again – follow this road until you get to Vand der Linde Road and drive over the R24 using the Van der Linde Road bridge. Normally one would turn right towards Goldfields, but instead you turn left and then at the boom turn right into Batten Road – follow Batten Road until its end and then turn right into Munday Avenue which you follow until you get to the bottom gate of Goldfields

Option 2

Come in on the R24 towards Eastgate, take the Concorde offramp and then turn left into the first road (Arbroath) and then turn right into Viscount Road. Then just before the entrance to Eastgate turn right into Bradford Road and go underneath the R24. The road turns into Rivier Road and you follow Rivier Road until you turn right into Munday Road. Then follow Munday road until you get to the Goldfields bottom gate

Option 3

Come in on the R24 and at the first traffic light turn right into Marcia Street. Then at the first traffic light at the Chinese market turn right into Ernest Oppenheimer Avenue. Turn right into Vernon at the BP garage and then immediately left into Boeing Road West. Then follow the road until you get to a boom on the left and turn into Batten Road – follow Batten Road until its end and then turn right into Munday Avenue which you follow until you get to the bottom gate of Goldfields

About our Judge:

Our Judge for the Weimaraner Klub Championship Show 2018 is Mr Adrian Rutland, who is 67 years old and a retired operational fire officer. He and his wife began their involvement with Weimaraners in 1982 when they obtained their first bitch and started the kennel called Khamsynn Weimaraners.

In his own words:

We bred our first litter in 1984. In all we have bred 12 litters totalling 80 puppies. We only bred a litter when we wanted another dog to show. Our dogs have always lived in the house with us and we have never rehomed any.

I started working our Weimaraners to the gun in 1986. I have worked them in the beating line at driven shoots, for picking up & as a general rough shooting dog. I was a member of a shooting syndicate for many years and my dogs always worked with me. I trained them to Field Trial standard and competed at a small number of trials with some success. Unfortunately I had to give up working the dogs a few years ago due to an ankle injury.

Our main involvement with the breed has been in the show environment. We started showing in 1983 and have owned a total of 14 Weimaraners, 4 of whom are still with us. We have bred or made up 9 Show Champions to date. We currently show 3 bitches all of whom are now Show Champions. Of the puppies that we have bred 23 have achieved Kennel Club Stud Book status. Achieving Show Champion status under the UK system is far more difficult than in many other countries.

I started judging Weimaraners at open show level in 1988. In 1997 I was approved by the Kennel Club to award Challenge Certificates and did so in November that year for the first time. I have since awarded CC’s at a further 6 shows and I was contracted to judge Weimaraners at Crufts in March 2018. In my early days I judged all gundog breeds up to and including group level at open shows. I decided that my prime interest was in Weimaraners and have not pursued judging of other breeds in recent years though obviously taking an interest in all of them as we attend shows on an almost weekly basis. Without reference to my records I would estimate that I have judged in excess of 1,000 dogs, the vast majority being Weimaraners and mostly at championship show level.

I am firmly of the opinion that judges have a responsibility to ensure the future well-being of the breed. I take that responsibility very seriously and always judge without fear or favour to preserve the Weimaraner as laid down in the breed standard.

We have devoted our lives (& an awful lot of cash!) to the Weimaraner for the last 36 years. It has brought us considerable pleasure & inevitably some pain. Lesley & I feel we have done our bit to improve the breed over this time & hope to be around for a few more years to see a bright future for the breed.

Note: Your dog must first pass Novice Shooting Dog before advancing to the next test. You can enter for both Novice Shooting Dog and Novice Retriever Dog on the same day but will only be eligible to participate in the Novice Retriever Dog test if your dog passed the Novice
Shooting Dog test on the day or at a previous Ratings

All Weimaraners are welcome, registered and unregistered

All entries and payments for tests and lunch close on the 15th June, but please do it before then so we can plan for the Ratings. Please make use of the entry form attached – print, complete and then scan and email back to [email protected] or fax to (011) 507-5576.

One form should be filled in for each dog entered. Also mark on the form how many people will be booking lunch (bottom right of the form where it says Lunch). Proof of Payment should be sent along with the entry form(s).
